The lovely outdoor bath at Yunokura Onsen.

Hirayama Onsen is a small spot with a collection of inns and baths, some of them quite spectacular. Like many of the off-the-beaten track spots, you get great value here, with some stunning baths and beautiful scenery.

Getting here is really best done by private vehicle. Shin-Tamana station is the closest train stop, but it's not nearby.

Jakotsuyu has closed.
An OnsenJapan bather brought the sad news that as of May, 2019, Jakotsuyu has closed. A shame, as it was one of the few spots in the heart of Tokyo worthy of a good soak.
