The view of quiet Souunkyou Onsen from the ropeway.

Sleepy Souunkyou is a great destination for hikers. Spend the day in the trails of majestic Daisetsuzan National Park, then spend evenings soaking away the soreness in simple luxury. A simple youth hostel rounds out mainly resort-style lodging.

The view from the top of the ropeway is not to be missed. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, it's spectacular.

Jakotsuyu has closed.
An OnsenJapan bather brought the sad news that as of May, 2019, Jakotsuyu has closed. A shame, as it was one of the few spots in the heart of Tokyo worthy of a good soak.
